Favourite Fall Lipsticks | 2016

Autumn is, without a doubt, my favourite time of year. There’s just something about re-discovering all my cosy jumpers, scarfs and coats that makes me happy. Plus the colours are simply beautiful. Reds, golds, greens…ahh I just love it.

I also get thoroughly over-excited about makeup at this time of year – because we all know that autumn equals dark lipstick – right? I don’t know why, but the second September rears it’s gorgeous, leafy head, I immediately want to smother purples and browns and berry-reds all over my lips. Sorry not sorry.

So today, in honour of my autumn obsession, I’m sharing five of my Favourite Fall Lipsticks with you lovely readers (in no particular order of course, don’t make me choose between them!)…

Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick – Silver Plum

First up is this beauty by Maybelline. True to it’s name, it’s a light silvery-purple, perfect for those minimal-makeup days that call for a cool toned lip. It’s subtle without being non-existent (which is hard to find these days!) and I personally love pairing it with a white cable-knit jumper, leggings and boots for a classic autumn look.

As you’d expect by the name of the line, the texture of the lipstick is wonderfully soft and moisturising. It does have a smell but – like with most of Maybelline’s products – it isn’t too overwhelming or unpleasant (take note L’Oreal!). If you’re the kind of person that really wants to opt for a purple lip, but doesn’t want to go all-out in terms of brightness, then this is one for you. It’s genuinely lovely, and I reach for it a lot more than I thought I would when I first bought it.

Unfortunately, I have a sneaky suspicion that Maybelline have discontinued this line, as I can’t seem to find them in any of the high-street drugstores. Booooo. I did a little online search though, and it is still available on Amazon for those of you who want to check it out. Go and get it before it goes!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick – Cutting Edge

I liked this one so much that I bought it twice. On the same day. From two different shops. No I am not joking.

Okay okay, so I did it accidentally…but it just proves how attractive the colour is! Plus it meant I could give the spare to my bestie as a little mid-week present. Awhhhh I’m so adorable (and slightly stupid).

Cutting Edge is what I’d call a classic berry shade. It does have a very slight tinge of purple, but I’d definitely place it in the red category – it’s one of those that would be perfect to transition through into the Winter season, and I’m positive that I’ll be using it to death over the coming months.

Just imagine it paired with a fluffy bobble hat…oooh so Christmassy! Rimmel is steadily becoming my go-to brand for lipsticks, as they just seem to do no wrong as far as formula is concerned. Along with the Lasting Finish range, I’m a massive fan of their Moisture Renew lipsticks, and of course their Kate Moss line. They’re so on top of their game right now!

I’ve only worn it a couple of times so far, so I can’t give you a proper review – but look out for this lippie in an upcoming favourites. I’m obsessed already, and I can only see myself falling harder…

PS Love…Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon

I can’t find a link for this particular product, but if you go and have a look in the makeup section of your local Primark, it’s the dark-browny-red shade. At only £2, this lippie is such a bargain in my eyes – it’s gorgeous! Yes it’s from Primark, so maybe it isn’t of the highest quality, but in my opinion that doesn’t do anything to take away from the final look: retro; vampy; oh-so-autumn.

I’ve really been getting into brown lipsticks recently. I don’t know whether I’m just subconsciously jumping on the Kylie Jenner bandwagon,  or whether it’s come to me completely organically – but I just can’t get enough of those coffee coloured shades right now. It’s a deep, moody shade that’s quintessentially autumn and, while it’s not as matte as the name suggests, I’ve really enjoyed the way it brings an added zest to my makeup looks.

For £2, you can’t go wrong really. If you haven’t tried many dark-brown lippies before, I’d suggest getting this one to practice with: it’s gorgeous and ridiculously affordable!

No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick – Dark Berry

Those of you who follow my blog might recognise this little gem from a Boots No7 Haul that I posted a couple of months back. I mentioned it then, and I’ll say it again now – this is a perfect shade for autumn. It’s called Dark Berry for goodness sake, it was made for this time of year! It’s a tad lighter in shade that Rimmel’s Cutting Edge, but it is definitely still a berry. It’s pinky red, and gives the most basic makeup look an added boost.

I’ve been reaching for this lippie several times a week since the summer time, but I think now is when it has truly come into it’s own. Paired with knee-high boots and a leather jacket, this ticks every single box. To be honest, I don’t think the picture I’ve posted really does it any justice – it’s one of those shades that looks beautiful on any skin tone, and the fact that it applies super-smoothly is just an added bonus!

The only thing I would say is that you’re best using a lipliner if you really want to get the best out of this lipstick: No7 – I think you need to rename your products; the formula is just way too creamy to ‘Stay Perfect’!

Makeup Revolution Vamp Collection Lipstick – 100% Vamp

First of all, do excuse the state of the packaging on this one. I’ve had this lipstick for around two years now (pretty gross I know, but as you can imagine I don’t get much opportunity to wear it) and unfortunately the tube has started to look a little bit worse for wear!

Now I know this shade isn’t going to be for everyone but, personally, I think it’s absolutely stunning. It’s a dark bluey-purple that turns any look vampy, without going too far down the ‘Gothic’ route. It wouldn’t be a Fall Favourites if I didn’t include a Halloween-esque lipstick, and this one has witchy vibes written all over it.

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Makeup Revolution, and I’m so pleased that they’ve decided to restock their Vamp collection this year. Even if you don’t fancy going for something this dark, they have some lighter purple shades that are just as beautiful and definitely worth checking out.

And are you ready for the best bit? It only costs £1! You genuinely don’t get much better than that, especially for something of this quality. Even if you only want a dark lipstick for costume wear – go and pick this one up. You never know, you might just surprise yourself with how much you like it…
